Creating A Very ‘Mary’ Gingerbread House
We decided to kick things off this holiday by building a gingerbread house with a little extra flare! We may be adults, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get a little messy and create our very own mini dispensary. After all, there’s no better way to get in the spirit than to spark up a joint and celebrate the things you love most.
While waiting in line at the check out the other day at Michaels we grabbed a Wilton Gingerbread Kit, the deal of the day for only $8! When we saw that it comes with everything you need to build a pretty awesome house we figured, why not? This version included green fondant, which really inspired this house, because it meant we could mold pieces into any shape we wanted. To give a little more detail we added green sugar sprinkles, small silver balls and some shredded coconut. A little trick we picked up over the years is to add the coconut to the base of the house using the royal icing. This creates a snowy effect that hides the base without too much effort.
Now that the cold weather is finally here, this felt like the perfect excuse to stay inside this afternoon and keep warm. It let us slow down and remember the good old days of decorating a gingerbread house as a kid, accept this time with a lot less gum drops. We now have a festive ornament to keep in our kitchen and let’s be honest, how can you not be jealous of the gingerbread man that gets to live in this house!
